President Stuart’s message is quite clear. He wants members to take care of themselves and their families first, to understand that shock and grief is normal and needs to be dealt with before we can move on to help in the community. He does not want to see martyrs out there. There is much to do and members need to be strong and able, supported by their families and the club, so that the needs of the community can be dealt with in a practical and compassionate way.
If you need to talk to anyone about the things that you have seen or experienced, or you need to ask for help in dealing with a situation, do so, knowing that you are in a safe environment and that any feelings you may need to express will be treated with respect and confidentiality. This really is a time for tears mixed with companionship and laughter, for practical help and the telling of stories as the result of your experiences. If we can lean on each other when the need is there, we will come through this in strong emotional, mental and physical health. By taking good care of ourselves and each other, we can care for the community.
